Neither.
The popular perspective I see among the ENTPs in this sub is that logic should always be held higher than emotion and that anything otherwise is simply naive.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I’d much prefer you use “logic” over emotion any day… but that’s just the thing. Every. Single. Decision we make is emotional and based in the contexts and perspectives in which we have lived our lives. The science of that is a WHOLE different conversation so I won’t get into that.
I see lots of people saying “I have the emotional intelligence. People just can’t handle the truth.”
Is that really emotional intelligence though? Emotional intelligence at its coldest is the understanding that rapport and positive relationship building will consistently prevail over any sort of negative rapport that confrontation brings. Also, despite how *proud* you may be for “owning” someone, it never did anything BUT that. *make you proud.*
“A man convinced against his will is a man of the same opinion still” as they say. It’s true.
People, however absolutely dumb they may be CAN be useful. Being an asshole to prove your right only proves that you’re an asshole.
Context and agenda matters too, of course. If you don’t give a shit about what others think… well that’s your thing. If it’s just some dude on the street? Well, who cares.
“Winning” arguments will never do anything but buzz people who already agree with you and increase your pride.
If you’re really emotionally intelligent you’ll understand that If you want to actually convince someone of something, you’re gonna have to let them come to the realization themselves.
