Hey everyone,
I’m a Deakin Burwood student trying to do one cross-institutional unit at the University of Melbourne.
The unit is a prerequisite for a future course I want to apply for. Deakin has an equivalent unit, but it is only taught at Waurn Ponds and requires regular on-campus attendance. Because of family obligations and travel distance, I can’t realistically travel there regularly. It would be around 2 hours by car each way for me.
I applied for cross-institutional study, but Deakin did not approve it because they said equivalent content is already offered at Deakin. They suggested other units, but those do not really solve the prerequisite issue.
My grades are strong, so I don’t think academic performance is the issue. I’m just trying to understand whether anyone has successfully had cross-institutional study approved or reconsidered when Deakin technically offers an equivalent unit, but it is not realistically accessible due to campus/location or family circumstances.
Has anyone gone through this process before? Did you contact Student Central, DUSA advocacy, your faculty, or use a formal appeal/review process?
Any advice would be appreciated.
