Our 16 week old Brussels Griffon has been with us since 10 weeks and has been a dream, he was fully potty trained within 2 days and has done really well with all of his other training. From day 1, either my partner or i has slept downstairs next to the crate with him and crate training has been pretty smooth sailing, day 1 - 3 we slept on the floor next to his crate, then moved to the sofa next to the crate out of sight, this was mainly to make night time toilet trips easier, and to make sure we could hear him when he wants to go out. He has no issue with his crate, and always settles in there straight away, whether its daytime naps, bedtime or after his night time toilet trips. He now sleeps through the night so about 3 nights ago, we tried to both sleep upstairs in bed, night 1 we managed to put him down in his crate at usual around 10pm with no fuss and sneak upstairs without waking him, he then randomly woke up at midnight so i took him out for a toilet trip, he could hear me go back upstairs and made a huge fuss, whining and crying but after 5 mins settled until morning, pretty much the same thing night 2 but last night (night 3), he heard my partner go upstairs to bed after putting him down at 10pm, and was not happy about it all, the crying didnt subside like it did the previous 2 nights and he was very loud so my partner went downstairs and slept on the sofa, he was immediately silent as soon as he went down there and slept through til 6.30am. Any tips on how we work through this so that he can be relaxed hearing us go upstairs to bed. I know it will take a bit of work but not too sure where to start. He also doesnt like it when i go upstairs during the day when he is in his crate or free roaming, (bathroom is up there so i have no choice) today i have been working on taking 2 steps up and coming back down whilst hes up and about, and will keep doing this till i can gradullay get further up the stairs without whining (cant get past 3 steps right now). But its more the night time issue that i am not sure how to handle. Any tips would be gratefully received.
