I’m trying my darndest to follow an 80/20 run plan but I’m struggling to stay in zone 2 for my easy runs. I can maintain a good easy pace with my HR in zone 2 for about 20-25 minutes but then it spikes into zone 3. In order to bring it back down I often have to walk or shuffle.

Should I slow down my pace way down when it is creeping up to maintain a slower HR? Or just keep the comfortable pace and go off of pace and perceived exertion and screw the HR if I’m feeling good. Or do I need to start way slower so it doesn’t creep up as much. I know sometimes my HR so also variable with my hydration status etc, so wondering if pace is a better indicator than HR.

Biking is my worst event. I would love to hear any great general training tips or race day tips for being most successful on the bike. Most of the training plans I’m looking at have me targeting RPMs of 95? Is this pretty standard?

Is there any particular type of workouts you recommend incorporating that have really upped your game ? What place does an indoor workout on a trainer (I have a watt bike from my husband) have in your training? And any tips for the transition to running? Should I increase my cadence for the last few miles?

On my bricks I typically go out waaaay to fast on the run because I feel like I’m slogging.

Sorry in advance- I may be posting a lot- so many questions. I scheduled a sprint Tri (my first in > 12 years) in July. This gives me 12 weeks to train. But I’m now wondering if it is reasonable to attempt one closer to 8 weeks since my first 2 weeks of training have felt pretty solid.

I have only been back to swimming for a few weeks, But today I swam 750 meters in like 15 minutes at a relatively easy pace. Just started biking (which is by far my weakest), but I can complete a 14 mile bike ride right now but haven’t attempted to venture past 12-14 mi/ hour. Though I would love to be able to hold a 17 mi/ hour pace.

I am an on and off runner and until the last 2 weeks I have run about 1-2, 3 mi runs/ week (easy with friends)- like a 9:30-10:30 mile pace. So not a huge base mileage, but not nothing.

So I think I can do all the individual legs, but do I have enough of a base to throw in an earlier Tri as a practice? Is there a good rule of thumb in terms of what I should be able to do before race day? (Such as be able to bike or run a certain mileage or maintain a certain tempo run, etc?) thanks!

I’m new-ish to triathlons. I have a sprint scheduled for early July. I’m wondering about scheduling a few other sprints or even possibly an Olympic at the end of August. Is there a minimum time between events I should leave myself? Any suggestions on training in between triathlons that are a few weeks apart.
