Hi all,
Last night one outlet in our kitchen stopped working (after finishing cooking rice in our ricepot). I also found out our gas cooktop igniter is not working, this morning while trying to cook eggs). 50 year old house, kitchen was remodeled 10 years ago—so this should not really be happening…
I tested the bad outlet with a 3 light tester, and the lights show the Open Neutral result.
I tested other multiple outlets along the same circuit, and all show they are wired Correct.
I checked the gfci and it had not been tripped.
I checked the panel, found the breaker, flipped it on and off and on a few times, as part of isolating. The breaker was never tripped.
After the breaker was reset, and the GFCI has been reset the outlet is not working. I also dont smell any burning plastic or electrical smell around the panel, the outlet, or a anywhere in the kitchen.
I’m at the point where I am going to shut off the circuit and open the outlet, inspect the wiring, then possibly replace the outlet. And if that doesn’t work I’ll dig around under the cooktop and check for wiring issues.
Any further things that I should do?
Thanks in advance.
Quick edit to add: we also have a Ting sensor (sent by our insurance company) plugged into the same circuit (separate GFCI). It’s supposed to sense microarcing and other potential electrical fire hazards. It has not sensed anything/posted anything to the app at all since March. Maybe unrelated, but I am just surprised an outlet and stovetop igniter would just stop working. So I dunno whats going on…
