Vacation Vs Last Minute Contract
Hello, I’m a stage actor in a decently sized theater community in the US. I auditioned for a musical this last January and was later called back but inevitably got the rejection email. Yesterday I get an email asking if I was still available for the summer to do the show. Here’s the problem when I got the rejection email I committed to and booked a family vacation out of the country, and my family even helped pay for half of my plane ticket so I could afford to go. Unfortunately even if I cut my time short my conflicts are deal breakers for the theater. I’m very conflicted on what I should do and have never had to choose between family and theater before so any advice is welcome.
Additional info:
- I have worked in children’s theater for the past few years and this would be my first time breaking out of that space (even though I do truly love it). And I have never worked for this theater before.
- The theater itself is a recognized regional house
- I would be playing a named role but I wouldn’t consider it a principal character
- I would be paying back my family that helped me pay for the trip in the first place
