Minutes after voting to further gerrymander Tennessee and disenfranchise black voters, State Senator Brent Taylor announced his campaign for Congress in the new 9th district with the support of Senators Hagerty and Blackburn. This new district stretches from Whitehaven to Tullahoma. He went through this whole process drawing a district for himself without letting the public and his constituents know his intentions.

All precincts are in for the county primary.

Governor Bill Lee appointed state justices Bethany Glandorf and Jim Todd have been defeated by Attorney Corletra Mance and former Public Defender Dawn Deaner.

Metro Council appointed General Sessions Judge Jodie Bell has been elected to a full term by the highest margin and most votes in a contested race.

Circuit Court Clerk Joseph Day narrowly hung on to win reelection in a rematch against Howard Jones.

Former Councilwoman at Large Sharon Hurt has been elected as the new County Clerk replacing retiring incumbent Brenda Wynn.

Both contested school board incumbents easily won another term.

Lastly, I have taken the time to compile a list of who is supporting who in the three most competitive countywide races. In races like these, it can be difficult to parse through the field of candidates for multiple niche offices. Endorsements can often signal where a candidate’s support base and values are. These lists are reflective of public endorsements and/or financial contributors consisting of current elected officials, former elected officials, political groups, business donors, and prominent individuals along with the result of the Nashville Bar Association poll for judicial candidates. Races and candidates are posted as they will appear on your ballot.

I am compiling a spreadsheet of various endorsements/support candidates have received to hopefully help voters ahead of Tuesday’s primary election. So in that effort, I’ve been going through financial disclosures to see what support candidates are getting that they aren’t publicizing themselves. Sure enough, I have found yet another elected Republican who is supporting Democratic General Sessions Judge candidate Michael Robinson. Councilwoman (and 2024 Republican nominee for State House District 50) Jennifer Webb is (at least) the third local elected Republican to be supporting his candidacy. However, she is the first elected Republican to be giving him money. I emphasize elected because Steve Smith, the Trump mega donor and business partner to Kid Rock, has already given him $9,000.

Full spreadsheet of endorsements coming tomorrow but please make informed choices Davidson County Democratic Primary voters!

If you haven’t early voted yet, you have until 7pm tonight to do so. You can vote at any early voting center in the county. 14,970 people in Davidson County have voted so far; that’s only 3.75% turnout.
