Tipping the waiters via card?

I do not wish to discuss if tipping is needed and how much you should tip.

I am asking people who work in the restaurant or bar business, especially waiters.

These days it's super popular to have those "add x% tip" options at the card payment terminals.

Now, if I give 10€ cash, I expect that staff will share it, or waiter keeps it, whatever arrangement they have internally.

But what about the digital payments? Do owners take a piece? Taxes? Bank charges? How much of those 10€ would end up in the pockets of workers?

Should you ever hire your friend as a subordinate?

I guess instant & quick response is a big NO, but I am wondering if someone had good examples of this working out? I never had such case personally, neither I have seen it in corporate surroundings.

In my department new position will be opened soon, which is perfectly suited for one former colleague (worked in another dpt) who is also a very good buddy in private life (like almost daily whatsapp chats and getting a beer/lunch/dinner or doing some sports together 1-2x a month, also our kids socializing a bit).

Some of colleagues from his previous dpt already started talking like "hey you should hire him, he would be a good fit". It is just a matter of time before someone mentions it to him.

But I am very hesitant to ask him, because I do not think managing your friend can work out nicely. In my view either friendhsip or work will suffer, or both.

I am also worried, if I do not say anything to him, and he learns about the position from others, would he take it poorly? Because I do think he would be interested to work in my dpt.

In the end I really do not wish to manage my friend.

Now I am internally debating with myself, do I just not say anything to him, or do I openly tell him that yes there is a position, but I do not wish to manage my friend. Both can backfire.

What is your view on this?
