Started a playthrough of the original release Wind Waker today and I must say the graphics still hold up today. A little adjustment of the distance level of detail and diffusion, textures and video output upscaled to 1440p and it would be perfect for a re-release. Straight out of a 90s-00s cartoon. No need for adjusted lighting and shadows... That would just make it look silly, right?

I am using a RVL-001 Wii, official Smash Ultimate GC controller, official component cable, OSSC HDMI converter in passthru mode and a modern 1080p AOC monitor with basic 2.1 stereo. Brilliant.

Just a bit tempted to get a Game Boy Advance and cable for the Mr. Tingle function. :D

For my birthday in January this year I decided I wanted to collect and play some older games but didn't want to mess around with modding consoles or buying a CRT. I am a PAL gamer so my options were limited as to getting them running on a modern display. I came across the OSSC and while it is quite the expense I have found it to be an excellent solution. It converts video via RGB SCART, VGA and component to HDMI and can provide line doubling with a 'bob' effect that really helps with interlaced video output.

I got an OG Xbox which is a system I had bought with my first wages back when I was 16. The initial cost of the console and getting it up and running on my monitor was the kicker but it's clean and fully functional. The games are relatively cheap depending on condition and there are plenty of games I am looking to buy and play.

I have also got a Wii for a measly £20 from a friend which is a console I have never owned and the games are also relatively cheap. Not many good games on Wii so the collection for this will be relatively smaller but with the motion controls the good games are fresh and exciting for me as well as some top classic controller games. Not only that but I have the backwards compatible model so I can play GameCube games with the minty fresh Smash Ultimate GameCube controller I have bought.

An Xbox 360 also entered the chat which has an exceptional library of games that are cheap to buy. Again this was a system I used to own. This will probably be the console I end up with the most games.

And lastly a Wii U which I never owned. There are very few games in the small library that I want and most of the good ones have been ported to the Switch. I want to experience these games in their original form so here I am with that.

I have now maxed out the multisocket surge protector and HDMI ports I have available. I do plan to buy the Nintendo handheld systems. A DS Lite, 3DS and a Switch but not rushing now I have a plethora of systems to collect for.

Overall not bad for 3 months collecting if I may say so myself. All of these games are complete in box and in excellent condition. Currently playing The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Wii) and Lost Odyssey (360).
