I’d like to present my month two token!

2 months of recovery. What a month it’s been. It’s been super challenging, and it’s been a very stressful month, but I made it through. I’m learning how to cope with my emotions while sober for the first time in 7 years.

Thankful to be sober!

So I went to a colorectal surgeon the other day because I had an abscess drained just over a month ago and it was having a hard time fully healing and it was still slightly draining.

So I see the doctor and tell her I’m worried about a possible fistula, there’s still some drainage, a tiny bit of blood from straining when I poop, and she checks me out. Grabs the anoscope and checks inside my rectum. She said there was no internal opening, but there was inflammation. She also implied it’s too early to tell if it will turn into a fistula, but if it does, said I would go for treatment with a seton.

She then did something with the healing abscess after she was finished. Kind of felt and looked like she made the wound a bit bigger. She told me what she did but I was so uncomfortable in the moment that I forgot what she said.

Anyway, she gave me a prescription of both oral and topical metronidazole, and told me to use the topical twice a day until my next visit in a few weeks.

It’s been two days, and so far, I haven’t had any blood come from the area when I poop, draining has significantly slowed down, and I’m also not feeling any new swelling or pain. My butthole feels a little uncomfortable from being spread open but that’s it. She said with how big my abscess was, it could take anywhere from 6 weeks or longer to fully heal.

Has anyone been through this kind of scenario? I know I’m not clear of a fistula just yet, but given what she said, and the fact my draining and bleeding has slowed down, I’m hopeful.

So I’m like 99% sure I have a fistula. The remaining 1% is up to the doctor. Which thankfully, I have a doctor appointment next week in hopes to get a referral to a CRS. Started dealing with this a month ago and looking to get it as soon as possible.

However, near the external opening, I noticed I have a small black/purplish spot underneath it. I was wondering if this is normal

I’ve been noticing the last couple of days my stool seems to have these white chunks grounded in them. I earliest I can get in to a new PCP May 13th, so I have that scheduled. I’m not really seeking medical advice, I’m saving that for my doctor, was just wondering if someone has been through this

Things I’ve ate over the last few days include chicken, chips, pasta, macadamia nuts, cashews, almonds, pistachios, pita bread, fries, Kashi breakfast cereal, broccoli, celery, carrots, strawberries, bananas, avocados and that’s about all I can think of.

I should also add, I was on antibiotics for an abscess for about three weeks. Originally was on metronidazole & Cipro, then had a 10 dose of amoxicillin. My gut hasn’t felt right since taking those so I’m wondering if that could be an issue. Also been taking stool softeners to soften my stool cause it’s been tough to pass.

I(28m) took two last night for my first time ever, had a tremendous bowel movement this morning. But I’ve been super gassy and my stomach is bubbling every 5 minutes.

I’ve also been pushing out farts left and right like there’s no tomorrow. Just wondering if this is normal

Cannot wait to try them once they get cold

EDIT: finally was able to try it. I love it. It’s like a Dr Pepper almond joy. Amazing.
