I've had a 128GB Samsung S22 Ultra for over three years, using it for normal tasks and multitasking—without pushing it with games or causing it to overheat. The phone was working fine until about 6 months ago, when it started freezing and experiencing excessive lag, especially when opening videos on TikTok or launching the camera. The phone simply wouldn’t respond to anything—neither a forced restart nor connecting the charger would help; it would remain frozen for a while and then function “normally.” The problem got worse as the weeks went by, until it became unusable. So I took it to a technician, who ran several tests, replaced the battery, and cleaned it, but the problem persisted.
Having resigned myself to the situation, I decided to do some research until I found the post:Resolved: S22 ultra went into boot loop : r/S22Ultra; in which, pressing a specific part of the screen made the phone work again. I tried pressing with my fingers (not too hard) every time the phone froze, and it would start working and responding correctly again.
So, with the basic repair knowledge I have, I decided to open the phone myself to check it out and try to see which internal part was being pressed when I tapped the screen (🛠 How to disassemble Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra SM-S908 instruction | Photos + Video). I then completely disassembled the top part of the phone (Img 4)
I removed the circuit board completely (Fig. 5) and I carefully inspected the board to identify the area sensitive to pressure to get the phone working properly.
[Solution]
I finally found the problem, which was located in this specific part of the circuit board (Fig. 6)
In this area (img 6), I added two thermal pads (used, taken from a PC) that weren’t very thick (img 7). I placed these on top of the board (img 8).
Finally, I assembled the S22 with all the screws tightened securely and proceeded to run benchmark tests, record 4K video, and perform random multitasking tests; in all of which the phone performed flawlessly.
It’s been over two months since I implemented this solution, and the phone has worked perfectly for me, without any lag or random freezes.
