Last Friday was our boy's 2 week check up. We opted for conservative treatment (odds for surgery were almost the same and would cost $16k). We have seen slow progress! The neurologist said she saw return of DPS in back toes (yay!). I also notice that sometimes he can stand on his own during potty breaks, and more often than not he pees on his own and even squats to pee like the good old days! I have noticed that his left leg seems to be much stronger than his right leg. We are hoping that we can help the right leg catch up to the left. The dr. told us to watch for tail wags. Still saying lots of prayers to St Francis. Always crate rest. Doing bicycle exercises with his back legs and playing with his tail. Progress is VERY slow but we get VERY excited with any signs that things are moving in the right direction.

Can anyone give me insight as to the curling back feet/toes?
We are on Day 10 since our Dachshund lost the use of his back legs. We opted for medical management (didn't have $16k for an unexpected surgery that only had a 60% chance)He's been on strict crate rest, prednisone & gabapentin. He can now tell me when he has to potty, and sometimes he can even go on his own without me pushing on his bladder. Today when we were outside peeing I'm pretty sure he was standing on his own (I was VERY excited!) And earlier today he rolled over for me to rub his belly and I saw BOTH legs move! We go back to the neurologist on Friday for our follow-up appointment. The progress has been very slow but I'm grateful that it seems like there IS progress. I'm wondering if it sounds like he's on track? What comes next?
