Whenever I'm watching a movie and someone starts getting choked, especially a one handed choke, I know with 99% certainty they're not going to die. It takes all tension away from the fight because I know in movies and TV shows almost nobody dies from getting choked like this. At worst they'll pass out, but the other 90% of the time they'll escape somehow. It's the worst possible way to kill someone in a fight in movies or TV.

I especially hate when someone who is clearly strong enough to just punch a hole through someone instead opts to go for a chokehold. At that point just say you're throwing the fight for the plot.

I have only seen someone die from choking a small handful of times in movies, and each time it's a genuine shock because of how common it is for people to survive this.

Am I alone on this? Does anyone else sigh when they see someone getting choked because they know that they'll almost definitely escape?
