[Canada/QC] Looking for speakers that can hang with my HD6XX rig. I play lots of JRPG.

Hey everyone,

I've been running an HD6XX off a first-gen JDS Labs DAC + amp stack for a while and I love it, but I want a pair of speakers for when I'm playing single-player games like Atelier Sophie, Final Fantasy, or Nier: Automata. Something I can leave on without putting headphones on, and that still sounds great with the soundtrack and ambience. I game on an LG C5 42" and would love better immersion, plus a break from having something on my head all the time. Audio will run from my PC through the JDS stack, so HDMI ARC on the speakers isn't required.

Looking at 2.0 or 2.1. Budget is around $500-750 CAD (I'm in Québec). I'd rather get a clean 2.0 pair now and add a sub later if that's the smarter play. I'm not a big bass guy anyway. I rarely listen to drum & bass; my usual rotation is artcore, EDM, psytrance, and sometimes rock (RWBY OST is a favorite). I'll stick with my headphones for music. The speakers would be purely for single-player gaming and rarelly listen to music.

For reference: my dad has a Logitech Z625 in his dining room, and when he plays his stuff (mostly rap and dubstep) the bass is fine but the mids sound flat to me. Nothing special compared to my HD6XX. That's the bar I'm trying to clear. I think I'd prefer something more neutral or slightly warm rather than bass-heavy.

I keep seeing Kali LP-6 V2, JBL 305P MkII, and Edifier S2000MkIII come up. Anyone here made the jump from HD6XX-tier headphones to speakers without regretting it? What did you land on?

Thanks!
