Hi all! I have just recently received a diagnosis of iron deficiency and I feel partially relieved to know that my symptoms these past few years have not been me becoming "a tired middle-aged mother". My symptoms have been chronic fatigue, thinning hair, bruising easily, and heavy periods. I have always bruised easily ever since I was a younger kid and I just chalked up the fatigue and thinner hair to being postpartum after having my last kid 5.5 years ago, but I never had heavy periods until after I had kids. My OB/GYN and PCP just told me heavy periods can be normal and didn't seem too concerned. My ferritin was first tested last July 2025 and it was at 18 but again my PCP wasn't worried. I had a second check back in December 2025 and it had dropped to 12. My doctor just told me to keep taking an iron supplement and a women's multivitamin. I had know idea until recently that my numbers were considered so low. I saw a woman post about low ferritin on my TikTok FYP and it all clicked! I immediately made a follow up appointment a few weeks ago to get another iron blood panel and my ferritin had dropped even lower to 7! My doctor has prescribed ACCRUFeR and I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with this medication? I'm just worried it's going to take a long time for me to see any relief. I'm also trying to schedule an appointment with my OB/GYN to get a second opinion.
