I'm a long time viewer of the Criminal Minds franchise. From the first season to the seventeenth season. The show is no longer what I became a fan of. I liked the original series format and the character development. I enjoyed all the characters introduced during it's initial run, seasons 1-15. What I miss most is the qualities of the unit's leadership thru those initial episodes. I miss Hotch's Integrity and by the book moral compass. Since Evolution began I miss that feeling of strong leadership. I have no problem with its turn towards female leadership. What troubles me most especially lately is Prentiss' willingness to bend the rules. Especially her violation of Trust with Rossi. He specifically asked her not to do something and she did. The payoff of which didn't seem worth the price and she never apologized for it but turned the follow up meeting with Rossi into dismissiveness. When he asked her not to contact Jill but she did anyway. But then seemed surprised and almost outraged by Jill's kissing of him. She had no idea of the potential ramifications of the two of them being thrown together or seemingly didn't care about their feelings. The bottom line result was more important to her. It reflects the problem of this show's willingness not to strike the balance that existed between the sexes initially this show possessed. Men's perspective on anything seems to have been eliminated. Absence of any testosterone is glaring. There is no signs of masculinity present any longer. I'm speaking of the male characters on this show. The BAU has been totally neutered. Any meaningful information has to come from OUTSIDE of the unit. Go to a serial killer for knowledge about a case? Where's a Spencer Reid type character or what Rossi once was. Not a sniveling headcase. Luke offers nothing constructive and Tyler knows more about a computer than Garcia does now? The new characters are not likeable, but eliminate Will's role and Rossi's wife Krystall? Everyone is a closed book except for Tara now. We're not supposed to know about anyone else's personal life? They have made Garcia very unlikeable and emotionally distant to others. There's no real emotion present, which Erica Messer only sees justified by killing off beloved characters either actually or metaphorically. The emotions are very forced rather than natural. Gone is any sense of humor between the characters and interactions are very pedestrian. Why does Tara love this character Rebecca so much? She's very unlikeable. Where is the strength Emily once had? She cuts way too many corners professionally. Hotch wouldn't sell himself short so easily. It's not the same show. Emily gave up an Interpol gig for this? Seems highly unlikely. I can understand why Matthew Gray Gubler didn't want to come back and Thomas Gibson's departure is very suspect. Joe Mantegna still is a friend of his and golfing buddy. I will stay on only to see Matthew Gray Gubler's cameo at Will's funeral, then I am gone. New fans have at it for as long as it still lasts.
