Increasing Supply without Oversupply
I tried to exclusively breastfeed but my baby began losing weight. Probably due to under supply and latching issues. We are both improving now—I’ve been pumping about 1-2 oz after each feed and feeding it to baby to top off our nursing sessions. Baby is responding well and gained 10 oz in a week. I’m supplementing about 2-4 oz of formula per day when I can’t pump enough and so my husband can feed once at midnight and I can rest.
I want to keep up what we’re doing because it’s working for both of us. However, I want to be sure I’m not setting myself up for an over supply. Any advice for ensuring baby has enough and is growing while not setting myself up for an oversupply? Currently between feeds my breasts feel full but not engorged or painful. Can I just keep doing what I’m doing indefinitely?
