Signed an offer letter after 8.5 months of unemployment!

After 8.5 months of unemployment and 10.5 months of job hunting, I just signed an offer letter!

The job starts on Monday and is a severe pay cut(40% less of my previous job) but I'm just thankful to have a steady paycheck w/ benefits again. It's also technically not in my intended career path but it does have useful skills(finance, SAP, network engineering, automation, etc.) and I'll gain useful domain knowledge(renewable energy).

War is over, babes!

Oh man, I'm still reeling from this during the lunch period.

I'm substituting for a Spanish teacher who's class periods are 8th graders. There was some noise issues in 3rd & 4th period this morning that I told to cut out. In 4th period, I made a comment that they need to cut out the noise to be mindful of their classmates who actually care about their grades. Cue lots of oooos and ahhhs.

A couple minutes later, I heard something fall by me. I see a marker by my chair & realize one of the students had thrown a marker towards me but thankfully missed. I figured I may as well call the administrative office cause it looked like they were not gonna settle down. I told the assistant to send whoever they could find--the 8th grade principal, school principal, etc. Lo and behold, the 8th grade principal showed up at the door in under 2 minutes. I was shook, I wasn't expecting anyone to come so soon or at all.

I shared what was going on, she started disciplining students, & then she stood at the back of the classroom to monitor. She sat in the stool besides the teacher's desk, started reviewing the assignment herself, & then checking students' assignments as well. Apparently, she took 4 years of Spanish back in school and speaks it at a basic level so she knew what was going on.

She ended up collecting 4th period's assignments, jotting down some names, & telling me that they're her "little shits" once they left lol. I was shocked at the level of support & how promptly she came to the classroom--I guess mentioning that I got a marker thrown towards me to the assistant had the principal damn near teleporting to me.

I gotta know though, have any non-male teachers here experienced a disproportionate amount of disrespect compared to their male colleagues? I'm a short, young, brown woman so I'm used to being disrespected in every setting.

Edit: The school day somehow got more hectic. A fight broke out in front of my classroom during the intermission b/t two periods. I probably didn't handle it right but I just let the full-time teachers break it up. I just watched while I kept my students in the classroom and waited for the hallway to clear out. Also, I highkey stayed watching just to get the tea.
