We know for certain that these character gimmicks (like Lucario's Aura or Ice Climbers' special traction), and then there are those who share a gimmick (like how the Links and Hero had a passive shield to block projectiles). Now my question is who else should get a fighter ability? I wanted to look up some source material for certain fighters, so here's an example of a few that come to mind, while others may sound a bit silly to work but it gets that general idea:

Mario & Luigi (Footstool Stomp): This one is easy and obvious. Its simple: When Mario or Luigi footstool jumps an opponent, it does a small bit of damage. It would be like the opposite of Piranha Plant's, where if someone footstools it, PP would damage it a little.

Pokemon (Abilities): Since Generation 3, Pokemon had abilities to get an edge in battle. Some would have these skills from those games, while others can get something more unique to Smash.

- Pikachu/Pichu (Static): When Pikachu/Pichu gets hit directly, there's a small chance that the opponent will get stunned for a brief period.

- Mewtwo (Psychic Grab): Mewtwo is able to grab opponents and items from a short distance and can be treated as it does physically.

- Pokemon Trainer (Torrent/Overgrow/Blaze): When Squirtle, Ivysaur and Charizard take 100% damage, they will glow a blue/green/red aura respectively and their elemental attacks are boosted in power.

- Greninja/Incineroar (Torrent/Blaze): Same thing with Pokemon Trainer.

- Fox/Falco/Wolf (Barrel Roll) - The Star Fox characters have a gimmick that gives them longer dodge frames on ground and air. I'm not sure I wanted to add a deflecting effect because that may sound broken lol.

- Samus (Melee Counter) - Samus' parry is altered so when she does parry, she quickly lets out a counter shot. The same applies when she runs, but it'll be a little weaker.

- Mr. Game & Watch (2D): This one I made up and it's funny. Mr. G&W has the small chance to avoid attacks even if he is not defending himself. This reminds me of that one meme with Simon failing to hit him with his because he's paper thin.

What more characters do want see have a fighter ability? It would be cool to hear some creative and original ideas in the comments, whether it is serious or funny.

So the Super Mario Bros. 40th anniversary has had many of its announcements like the games, the merchandise, and of course its main event, the movie. The reason why I made this post is because I do believe there are still more announcements and that the anniversary isn't over yet (the image above possibly alluding to more content). As for as we know, all that is left is Yoshi and the Mysterious Book for this month. As much as I liked the 40th anniversary, I didn't like how they just ended it with Yoshi back in that Direct. It felt weird and off, and it didn't feel like a "final announcement" like 3D All-Stars did.

To be honest, everyone was expecting something big like the next 3D Mario game, but by the way they have been pushing the Galaxy theme, I feel like they should've at least ended it with the Galaxy games as the last thing instead, which would've been fine imo. If we do get a Direct in June, they could then show the "second wave" of announcements. What could they be, there's a few that come to mind:

  1. Mario Kart World DLC Update: It's surprising to me that the game that Nintendo has been pushing (their launch title) didn't announce DLC yet, probably because it was not time yet. Because Mario Kart World is Mario Kart, I would expect them to present a major update soon hopefully. What could it be? An easy solution would be more drivers, karts, and tracks. But they could do something more significant like 200cc, boss battles, and a jukebox. To me, I just feel like they can do more with World if they wanna keep this game afloat.

  2. Super Mario Maker 3: This is a game that I can see announced this year, but release in 2027. What they could do is add the Wonder theme style and slap some mouse controls for course creations along with some other things. Something worth mentioning is that the first game was a big deal in the 20th anniversary, so that counts, right?😅

  3. Luigi's Mansion 4: Another game that many would like to see after how great the third title was. It could potentially be the holiday title since Next Level Games released games every 3 years since 2019. But assuming this game is bigger than the last, the extra year in 2026 make sense.

  4. 3D Mario: Now this is the big and obvious one. I thought the stars were aligning for this game: along with the 40th, the year of the Switch 2, and the common fact that 3D Mario usually drop within a couple years after a console launches, but nothing happened, and that's okay because they're just not ready yet. There was a famous rumor stating that the next 3D Mario game is scheduled for 2027 instead of this year, whether that's true or not, we'll see. If that does happen, I wouldn't mind having it announced this June and then releasing next year. If Pokemon could do that with Winds and Waves, then why not 3D Mario?

I don't know how long the 40th will last, but the longest a Mario anniversary lasted for was 8 months, so they could stretch it until September if they wanted to. What do you guys think? What more Mario content do you want to see next or soon?
