I’ve recently been trying to pursue a career in law enforcement and have stumbled upon two different agencies that I’m interested in.
In the most recent sponsorship opportunity for St. John’s I was contacted by the recruiter via phone call and informed that I was not selected for sponsorship. However, the agency did like me and will continue to follow up with me through the academy if I decide to self sponsor.

Upon not being accepted for sponsorship I started looking at other agencies that offered similar opportunities and stumbled upon FHP. I think it’s a great opportunity however I haven’t heard the best things about the agency, but nothing truly terrible either. My biggest personal issue with the agency is placement is not guaranteed and you will be assigned to wherever the agency places you.
Questions:
- How would you go about best navigating the process?
- What do you think is the possibility / probability of me being assigned to Troop G (St. John’s, Duval, Clay)?
- Would you pay the $4k to self sponsor or wait until the next sponsorship opportunity?
*Lastly, in case anyone was curious I have no background in LE work to any capacity. I’ve spent the last 10 years of my life working in fast food for TB.
