Hello!
It's my first time posting, but I wanted to see if I could get some advice for my 6-year old boy as my vet and I are scratching our collective heads with him.
When he was about 4 years old, he started leaking drops of pee, only when he sleeps. We've been back and forth from the vet and tried a variety of things with only short term success.
Even if he goes to his litterbox right before his bedtime, he will still leak in his sleep. He does not strain when he pees, and he goes regularly. He's active and has been on prescription diet (Royal Canin Urinary S/O for struvite crystals, both dry and wet version). Ever since I've had him, he always drinks approx. A small bowl of water/day.
We've done multiple urinalysis tests with him at each annual check up and it always runs negative for UTI or any infection. His ultrasound and x-ray shows no abnormalities other than his struvite crystals, which the vet doesn't think is relevant to his leaking. His blood work is always good. We tried putting him on phenylpropanolamine with no success, and he's currently on bethanecol but he still leaks.
He's due for his next annual check up soon and I intend to revisit this issue again with his vet but it feels like we've exercise most of the usual options. I'm hoping this post could maybe provide new ideas or insight as to why he may be leaky, which his vet and I can look into.
As for breed, I've narrowed him down to an American Ringtail Cat so his tail curves upwards towards his back (I would post a picture but I haven't figured out how to do that yet). I wonder if it's a physiological thing? But when I read up on this breed it doesn't say anything about leakiness being a common issue.
Thank you for your help!
