My sister and I wanted to make a cake for a celebration of life. My sister baked the two layers and I had 10 hours to trim, fill and coat, as well as decorate (i made swiss meringue buttercream) so I pulled an all nighter 🫣
This is my first time doing any of this, and i learned a LOT! Mostly that it’s important to have the right tools and equipment, and a proper plan for how the cake will look instead of just winging it. And most importantly MORE TIME! I’m freezing the leftover icing and gonna make some decorations in advance for practice. Definitely going to invest in some wilton piping tips as I found out half of my shein set were useless! I forgot to add a layer of cream inside, but people didn’t mind as there was a lot of icing on top. The hardest part for me was getting the outside smooth, i think I didn’t knock enough air out of the buttercream. i did try the heat and water method but after 2 hours of trying, I just decided to call it done. I’m really proud that I got it done on time, and excited to try decorating again soon :)
Edit: WOW!! Thank you so much for all of the compliments. I’ve linked a progress pic in the comments, I took photos so I could flip the image and make each side somewhat symmetrical!
