Been doing a lot of research on local business reputation lately and stumbled onto something that surprised me.
I looked at 50 small businesses in my area — restaurants, salons,
dentists, auto shops — and checked their Google reviews.
Over 70% had unanswered reviews sitting there. Some for months.
Not just negative ones. 5-star reviews with no response too.
I started digging into why and the answer was always the same: owners are slammed. They know they should respond but it falls to the bottom of the list every single day.
The problem is potential customers read those unanswered reviews.
Research shows 89% of people read business responses before deciding to visit. When there's no response they assume the owner doesn't care.
I built a small tool to help with this after watching a friend lose a customer who mentioned an unanswered negative review as the reason they went somewhere else.
But I'm curious — do you respond to your Google reviews? What's
your process? Is this something you struggle with or have you figured it out?
Not trying to sell anything here, genuinely curious how other owners handle this.
