The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) actively recommends and uses "zipper merges" in construction zones to reduce congestion, particularly in high-traffic urban areas. Drivers are encouraged to use both lanes right up to the lane closure point, then take turns merging, rather than merging early.

P.S. Quit feeling entitled and raging at people who do this correctly.
