Hey, I'm a 40m Veteran, a husband and father. I am happily married, so I'm not looking for anything more than chatting buddies and maybe eventually some friendships. While I love my family more than anything, it has made it a bit more difficult to create and maintain friendships, and my circle has unfortunately shrunk to a dot. And now, i noticed that I will sometimes go without talking to another adult other than my wife for weeks. So I'm looking for someone to chat with, joke with share memes with, talk about the day, and maybe vent to, or provide/receive advice. I will admit that I Can be kind of an outdoor-cat kind of friend. I'm good company, but I occasionally disappear for hours, sometimes days. (such as if I'm going through something or overwhelmed) But I tend to just pop up again as if no time has passed. And the Introvert really shows up as I'm getting to know someone, so I apologize if I'm a bit quiet at first, I'll open up as I get comfortable.
Gender/nationality/location/background don't matter to me; good people are good people. But as far as age, I really want to say mid 20 's or up ideally, I don't mind chatting with someone younger (18+) at all, but unless we share a lot of common interests, we may have a lot less to connect with. I have Nieces and nephews in that age range, and I have no idea what is even popular or how to understand the lingo, so I'm fine being relegated to the "cool uncle" category.
Little bits about me,
I was a Medic for the US Army, I spent time in both Iraq and Kuwait. I was unfortunately injured, so if being an introvert wasn't enough, I do have some disabilities that make it harder to meet new people or do certain things.
I've been with my wife for a decade now, and I have two kids who are my whole world. Anything they want to do is my favorite thing to do. And they do take priority over everything. I've done a lot of really cool things in life, but being Dad is my favorite title I have ever obtained
But when I do get a break from enjoying my family, these are some interests of mine:
-Any kind of Sci-fi, Movies, shows, books, games, you name it, but Heavy on the science end of the scale. Don't get me wrong, stuff like LOTR & GOT are still among my favorite worlds. But I do prefer spaceships and aliens over Swords and magic. I have read some series that mixed both very beautifully, though.
-Anime, the anime that got me into anime will be no surprise after the last one, but are specifically: Outlaw Star, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, and Ghost in the Shell. And I now watch a wide variety from Spy Family, to Solo Leveling, reincarnated as a slime etc
-I love the outdoors, I can't hike anymore due to my disabilities so I do alot of camping and overlanding/offroading
-Absolutely anything with an engine, from simply just antique hit and miss engines, to boats, offroad vehicles, motorcycles, cars etc. I have a few projects right now, A FJ as my Dad mobile and to go everywhere i want offroad and tow vehicle, A 90s turbo Toyota to go fast, a "vintage" 1970s Jetboat with a BBF, and im picking up a 1st gen dually ram with a Cummins to take over towing duties and to be more of a cruiser. But I used to have everything from stock class miatas for autocross, to a heads/cam/blower corvette, Ive had Ducatis, Ninjas, minitrucks. I dont hate anymore, JDM or muscle I like it all. Well, except for Tesla, I respect them and their performance, but I don't want an appliance.
-Video games, I don't have any current gen consoles, i do have an xbone a ps4 and an OG switch. But i do most my gaming on PC im on steam. My favorite games are typically strategy, specifically 4x (think Civ/Tropico/Age of Empires/Stellaris/Starcraft) with some stuff like Satisfactory, or Dyson Sphere Program for good measure, but I also enjoy RPGs and anything Co-op, so HD2 and Warhammer SM2 as of late. Last MMO I played was FFXIV, I just don't play PVP-only games.
-Nerdy pursuits even if I've never tried them. I have done D&D (3.5 and Pathfinder are so much better than 5e!), and Warhammer looks up my alley but more of a financial demand than i can justify
- I picked smoking meats as my midlife dad hobby. but I also love cooking. Family loves that i love cooking because i seem to have gotten fairly good at it.
-I love to travel, I've worked my way through half the continental United States + Hawaii so far. still need to hit the East Coast and Alaska, and I want to visit Vietnam, Korea, Japan, and spend a good couple of months getting the opportunity to drive an epic road trip across as many countries in Europe as I can.
- I don't do politics. If you are looking for someone to discuss this with, that's not me. There are plenty of good people regardless of their position on the spectrum, But Politics does nothing but cause stress. I decided to stop following or discussing anything from it, and my life is so much happier.
