Appreciation for Music Acts
As the end of an era approaches, I just want to let anyone from the Late Show team who may keep tabs over here that the musical acts have been a special treat the entire run.
- Excellent selection of known and unknown artists.
- Excellent production in all aspects.
- Excellent incorporation into the overall character of the program.
My day job is working in theater consulting -- I've long forfeited most of my own art in service of enabling others. Watching the musical segments over the years has personally touched me and has been a constant reminder of why I do this.
Some of the highlights.
- A knockout set of performances by Gorillaz including Let Me Out and guest appearance by Stephen during Feel Good Inc.
- Smile by Jungle.
- The bone-chilling performance of Lazarus by Michael C Hall a few weeks before David Bowie passed away.
- A wonderful New Year's performance by the talented and lovely Jon Batiste.
- A bright moment from the darkness of Covid.
- The sweetest solo performance full of soul by John Moreland.
Some of the other good ones I would call out (Father John Misty, Sampha, Adia Victoria, Rationale, Gustavo Dudamel & The Simon Bolivar Symphony Orchestra) have unfortunately been lost to time as they fell off the Late Show social media after some prescribed date.
It was top-notch production all-around for audio, lighting, and video every single time. No artist was treated like a set the show just needed to get through. No artist acted liked it was just a set they needed to get through. The love and passion came through every performance at a level and quality that exists nowhere else in broadcast, streaming, or any other form of media.
From the bottom of my heart I want to thank the Late Show staff for soul they promoted and platform they offered to artists with the greatest level of care and respect. It was a group effort and you executed it flawlessly.
