Hi. My home came with this shed (Cape Town, South Africa). I'd like to convert it into a home office, to house a desk, laptop, monitor etc.
I would appreciate advice on suitability and measures to address any issues.
The base:
Having lurked here for a bit I am a bit concerned about the base. It's on pressure treated lumber, which is either direct on the ground in some cases or on a single brick (in some cases) or a paving slab. I suspect it is likely this will sink over time?
There is little room to manoeuvre it, so I suspect the ideal world solution would be to jack it up, dig down around the edges and pour some cement or something for a more stable base? Is that definitely necessary though, I'd have to get someone to do that for me. Way beyond my DIY capabilities 😄
The interior:
The stud depth is 70mm. I was thinking to add 20mm vertical battens (not sure thats the right term) to create a 20mm air gap. I'd then add a radiant barrier and then 50mm insulation before covering with some sort of board, like OSB. I'd do roughly the same for the roof (radiant barrier, insulation, board).
The roof:
The roof itself is that wavy bitumen sheet (like Onduline, not sure if thats the exact brand though). It seems to be holding up to rain fine for now, though I would eventually replace it, probably with plastic instead of bitumen.
I would appreciate any advice, thanks shedditors.
