I really need honest advice.

I scored 94% in 10th and was considered a topper. At that time, I wanted to pursue engineering, but my mom pushed me toward medicine. I was only 15–16, had no real understanding of streams or careers, and ended up taking PCB (which I now feel was a big mistake).

In 12th (CBSE), I scored around 80%. In my first NEET attempt (along with boards), I got 311 marks. When I asked for a drop and requested my parents to let me add Maths through NIOS so I could switch to engineering, they refused.

Both my parents are doctors, and my mom is very conservative when it comes to career choices. I never really got a chance to choose for myself.

Also, even though my parents are doctors, we don’t have any hospital or setup of our own. My dad works in a corporate hospital. So it’s not like there’s an existing setup I’d be continuing.

Now in my drop year (NEET 2026), I’m scoring around 370. The problem is — I genuinely don’t want to pursue medicine. I have zero interest in it and honestly dislike it at this point. The course is long, exhausting, and I can’t see myself doing this for the rest of my life. Even if I somehow complete MBBS, I feel like I might struggle later (like NEET PG) because my heart isn’t in it.

Another important factor: my family’s financial planning hasn’t been the best and there are already some loans. Private MBBS costs around 70L–1.2 crore, which feels extremely risky, especially for something I don’t even want to pursue.

What I actually want:

- Take another drop

- Add Maths through NIOS

- Prepare seriously for JEE Main & BITSAT

- Try for CSE/ECE (my genuine interest since childhood)

I’m still planning to give NEET as well since I’ve already studied Biology.

Right now, I’m trying to convince my parents to allow this, but it’s very difficult. This situation is honestly affecting my mental health a lot and I feel really stuck and overwhelmed.

So I want honest opinions:

- Should I just follow medicine because my parents are doctors?

- Or should I take the risk and switch to engineering, which I’m actually passionate about?

Also, if anyone has taken Maths through NIOS and switched streams, please share your experience.

I genuinely need guidance.
