Ignorant question, I know! But, I am preparing to leave the first actual adult, corporate job I’ve ever had.
There are some steps I’ve made along the way at this job that make me wonder if I could have done things differently. I consistently advocated for myself by asking for more of a raise or a promotion. I was also attempting to switch departments, but the need just isn’t there and so I have to look at other companies. I feel like there’s an art to negotiating raises and moving through a company that I’m definitely still a novice at. Through this process, I worry that I’ve left a bad taste in my employers mouth and want to ask them if there’s anything they wish I’d done differently. It’s important to me not to burn bridges and maintain favorable relationships with the company upon leaving. And, if they’re willing to be candid, the feedback would be useful for my next role and company.
I know exit interviews are a controversial topic. Some people decline them altogether or find them to be pointless. Just hoping there’s an appropriate way for me to solicit this feedback.
Thanks!
