I built a storybook maker inspired by my son’s favorite stuffed lion

I built Ethan Tales because my son Ethan carries this one stuffed lion everywhere — to school, to bed, to the grocery store.

One night, I started making up bedtime stories about his lion, and something clicked. He actually listened. He cared about the story because it was his lion going through the adventure.

That made me wonder: could I turn a child’s favorite toy into a real illustrated storybook?

So I built Ethan Tales. Parents upload a photo of their child’s toy, choose a scenario like bedtime fears, sharing, potty training, or starting school, and get a personalized storybook where the toy becomes the main character.

I launched it on Product Hunt, but I’m still trying to figure out the best positioning and distribution beyond the builder community.

Would love feedback:

  • Is the idea clear?
  • Does the “favorite toy becomes the hero” angle feel strong?
  • Would parents prefer a digital book, a printed book, or both?
  • What channel would you try first to reach parents?
