Have heard it said often that there's too many fun things to do in the summer, so fitness takes a back seat (other than the outdoor activities itself). Do you feel it's worth it to workout (cardio/weight lift) to prep for summer hikes, adventures, etc. and what would actually help take advantage of the summer months more?

Asking so the locals can respond: What's your biggest barrier to staying in shape (if any) in Alaska?

We've been in Anchorage for close to twenty years now (hard to believe) and as a gym we have our own insights/experience on this topic, but are wanting a fresh perspective. What is your biggest barrier to staying in shape? Lack of community? Seasonality and harsh winter months? Not enjoying a gym setting? Curious on your feedback.
