Mayor Scott Pledges 17 New Miles of Bike Lanes for Baltimore | Bike to Work Week 2026

Mayor Brandon M. Scott kicked off National Bike to Work Week with a new commitment: 17 new miles of bike lanes across Baltimore over the next three years.

Baltimore currently has just under 300 miles of bike lanes, with more planned through the Greenway Trails Network, a 35 mile loop that will directly link more than 75 neighborhoods across the city.

Since 2019, dockless vehicles including e-scooters, e-bikes, and adaptive vehicles have become an integral part of Baltimore's transportation infrastructure. More than 3 million trips were taken on rentable scooters and e-bikes last year, nearly double the previous record set in 2019.

🚲 Rain didn't stop Baltimore.

Yesterday we kicked off Bike to Work Week 2026 at War Memorial Plaza, the same day Governor Wes Moore proclaimed May as Bike Month across Maryland.

Mayor Brandon Scott, DOT Director Veronica McBeth, MTA Administrator Holly Arnold, and Jed Weeks from Bikemore all spoke about what biking means for our city.

Big thanks to every rider, partner, shop, and mascot who came out in the drizzle: Bike to Work Central Maryland, Bikemore, MTA Maryland, MDOT, BMC, iRide, Joe's Bike Shop, Velocipede Bike Project, MedStar Family Choice, Nando's PERi-PERi, and Poe and the Baltimore Ravens.

Bike to Work Week runs through Sunday, May 17.

🚫 Don't park on the sidewalk. Ever.

A vehicle on the sidewalk pushes wheelchair users, parents with strollers, kids, and older neighbors into traffic just to get past.

DOT joined Mayor Brandon Scott, DPW, and partner agencies in District 10 on Friday for the Mayor's Spring Sprint.

Crews cleared trash and overgrowth from alleys, removed stickers from traffic signs, towed abandoned vehicles, and hauled out bulk debris block by block.

We are proud of the DOT crews, parking enforcement, towing, and sanitation teams, and the DPW crews who showed up and did the work. A lot of what got addressed on Friday started with 311 reports from residents.

Keep them coming.
