People currently we have a standard ba blue amex and have used the companion voucher once to get a long haul flight with points and cash on top

Now I've read there are better ways to use avios points to and maybe even thr companion voucher but what is it?

We are planning to go away again and I think I'm near the companion voucher limit of 15k but should I upgrade my card first then hit the limit or..
