My husband and I are expecting our first baby in July and we were on his health insurance. He quit his job effective 5/4/26 to help prepare for the baby. I signed us up for my health insurance during open enrollment last week, and coverage begins 6/1/26. I was under the impression we would need to use COBRA to avoid a coverage gap with him quitting early on in the month, but his HR says his benefits will term 6/15. Does this make sense? He is paid biweekly, so I assumed his health insurance would be prorated to sometime mid-May or would term 6/1 at the latest.
I just want to make sure I’m understanding correctly since I am high risk and can’t afford to have gaps in health coverage at this point in my pregnancy.
