Do not want to return to this highschool due to admin things
O man I'm quite unhappy with the school I'm at right now at start of day, which is always the worst.
So a bit of context for my county to make it make sense:
- we use Frontline Education for getting our assignments. County hires us, we have (for new hires) a minimum of assignments to do per week, which is 2 (I am a new hire)
- typically, you show up, teacher leaves some notes, you follow through, make sure the kids are ok
- it is very possible that when you arrive your assignment is changed. Because people get shuffled around, it's all fine.
Wake up this morning, and see I've been added to a general Google document that contains all the typical day to day stuff, but in particular, they say they want attendance done through this (we'll get to it)
They don't however, mention that you need a day pass from front office to be able to park, or that the substitute sign in is not in the front office, but rather a different office on the opposite side of the building. So i get there, park, go in to figure out where I should go, have to go around the building to be told I need a parking pass, go back, wait 10 minutes, go to my car, go back in.
In our county they ask us to be about...10 15 minutes early to get settled. I got there at 7:45, it was 8:10 when I got in my classroom because of this.
This is way outside the norm overall because every other school, middle and high I've subbed for, they have the sub sign in in the front office so you can also get your attendance sheets printed and handed to you.
So then we get to attendance.
Notably, my county does not have any Wi-Fi access for subs. You have to use the guest wifi, which the sign in process is: put name and email, have a sponsers name, then an email is sent to your sponsor, which has to be opened from a device connected to the school wifi, to be able to confirm your identity and sign in.
Now this is really dumb because another notable fact is in order to make changes to payroll or access HR resources, you have to be on network Wi-Fi. If you aren't, no access.
But, the major issue is that even when you are signed in properly, the wifi hates hates hates Google drive or anything actually secure. Warning pop-ups, including browser just refusing to connect because not right authentication credentials.
So you can't access the drive, which has the document. Which has attendance on it.
And for those curious, doing it on mobile wouldn't matter. Because the original document links to rosters for all teachers, so you have to go that document to find your roster.
And then it just pulls it up as a PDF.
And come to find out the attendance office emailed us saying "oh just tell us who's not here off the attendance sheet".
So we can't even do attendance properly. And when I gave the person a heads up they were like "oh...just write names on a sheet of paper and give it to the attendance office"
But then we get to the thing that really irritates me
The norm in these schools is 1 period less than the day. Every teacher gets a planning period, it's county wide.
This school decided that instead of giving subs a planning period today, you would have to go to another class to teach. So you have to go from classroom assignment in a building you may not know to another classroom somewhere else in the building, in 5 minutes, read that teacher's notes, and start. And then end of that period, make your way back to the original classroom
To put the icing on the cake, the point of contact for substitutes is not here today, and no one else has said "hey this is point of contact" in case something happens or you need assistance
The kids have been completely fine, they're doing well, but I know I'm not coming back to this school because of all the things above that have made this the single most frustrating morning I've dealt with.
It's ridiculous when every other school has been smooth sailing on that front.
