I thought that i was extremely healthy for drinking gallons of water— turns out my body was screaming for help

From the last 1 year, i haven been drinking like insane amount of water. And recently before my diagnosis, i was drinking 5-6 L/ 1.5 gallons of water a day. I thought that it was due to living in an extremely dry and hot place.

I have lived a moderately healthy life with regular walking 1-2 hrs and occasional weight training. My daily sugar intake isn’t super high either with mostly stevia, and especially in the last 6 months as i was doing Keto on and off.

My mum got diagnosed with pre-diabetes and i just took the test for shits and giggles, and also cuz a couple of times my urine was smelling sickly sweet?! Turns out my HbA1c is 6.8 and fasting being 125. This is despite that I’ve been consistently losing weight since the last 4 months. My doctor was alarmed and got me started on Metformin and within 3 days, my water intake naturally reduced to half. I genuinely have felt a shift on how I’m feeling. I think i really got lucky considering that I’m only 22.

I literally used to think that drinking that much amount od water was a flex cuz i was “healthy” and turns out, my body was absolutely screaming for help. So, anything in excess is the first sign of something being wrong.
