Hi everyone,

I am a Catholic that is very interested in Orthodoxy, and may convert if I keep heading the way I am (really agreeing with what I find in Orthodox teachings). I am struggling with a lot of Catholic doctrine lately, such as mortal vs venial sin, humanae vitae, and original sin. There are more, but I’ve been researching about the Orthodox Church and so much of it has been speaking to me.

If you converted from the Catholic faith, what convinced you? Has anyone here been in a similar boat as I?

Hi everyone,

I am married with 2 children and had them back to back essentially (they are 2 under 2). I have a past of being very fertile, and it’s made me really scared that I’ll get pregnant soon again. I am using the Marquette method, and while it’s been helpful, it missed my peak last cycle and it’s just been difficult at times. I am 7 months postpartum and breastfeeding.

I am struggling immensely with birth control. I’m not on any contraceptives, but my husband and I sometimes use the pull out method. It’s the same cycle — we’ll do it, I’ll feel very guilty and then upset about the no contraceptives rule, then go to confession, and then we’ll do it again. I try to do research on this topic to convince myself about it and I pray, and while I understand the philosophy behind it, my own self gets in the way of staying in a state of grace. While I believe using BC limits the chance of allowing life to develop, I get angry that I have to limit romantic times with my husband or possibly risk getting pregnant so soon again.

My husband is not Catholic but wants to convert and is also on board/supportive with NFP like me, but also like me…we both give into sin. I know he’s a lot more lukewarm on the issue since he isn’t converted, and would honestly probably agree with me if I said “well, I want to leave the Church, I just can’t agree with this rule).”

I don’t know what to do. I get so frustrated over this. Every other aspect of the Church, I agree with and do not struggle like I do with NFP/no BC. Does anyone else struggle with this? Does anyone have resources for this to help me?
