Gratuity Charge

Hi everyone, I’ve spoken to a few customer service representatives from NCL and all of them have told me that the automatic gratuity charge cannot be removed, even if I was not satisfied with the service or if I prefer to tip in cash.

Is this a new policy? From what I see from other people’s experiences, they were able to remove this. I very much prefer to pay the servers and staff in cash. This makes me more lenient to not pay cash, knowing that I’m already paying this mandatory gratuity. I understand how some people can take advantage of this as well.

If anyone could provide some insight on this, that would be phenomenal. My sail date is on May 17th on the Breakaway.

EDIT: I have not prepaid the gratuity yet. The customer service representatives were aware that I have not prepaid. I explained to them that I would prefer to pay cash during my trip, but they said it was not allowed no matter the reasons. From everyone’s responses, I will contact them again before the trip, but I will also make sure to go to guest services on the ship.

Going to try to visit all the NYU buildings that I possibly can this month. Went to the data science building for the first time, but i could barely go into any of the area because I needed DS student access.
