If a PhD scholar stays in institute hostel, how does the HRA/hostel fee system work in practice? Is hostel fee charged separately?

I have my PhD interview at IIT Indore (DAASE) coming up, and there’s a written test before the interview. I wanted to ask if anyone here has previously appeared for this test.
Would really appreciate if you could share:
- the difficulty level (GATE/JEST/comparable?)
- type of questions (MCQ/numerical/subjective)
- major topics covered
- anything unexpected or important to focus on
