Daisy's facial expressions are so funny!

Can we please talk about how funny Daisy's reactions are in episode 8? I had to keep rewinding.

For example when she hears about "copulation class". Or when she does a double take after hearing that Becka choose Garth. It's just so funny how she says "congratulations" but internally, she is like creaming and then the carrot falls off her fork. Also, her stunned face after Shu doesn't believe her "copulation" story. OR, the bombastic side eye she is giving Garth when she is congratulating him and Becka.

The actor Lucy Halliday is doing such a good job with her micro facial expressions. Actually everybody is.

the following NOT happening (FYI this is actually what I want to happened but it WON'T because I'm jinxed):

  • No romance between Agnes and Garth (because boring)
  • Edit: The kiss scene between Agnes and Garth is a dream sequence
  • I'd rather see Daisy and Garth (because drama and more age appropriate)
  • I don't want Garth to end up with Becka (because no romance triangle please)
  • I want Daisy to be Junes biological daughter (because it doesn't make sense to make carbon copy of book Daisy –June connection because "tImEliNE". I mean they retconed Aunt Lydia, sooo... )
  • I want the "15 years have passed" instead of "4 years have passed" theory making the girls early 20ies but they don't know it because they can't count, read & write.
  • I want Agnes to start hating Gilead because of Becka's suffering, not because she can't marry Garth.
  • I want Garth to become inverted Nick.
  • Vidala is secretly Mayday

Garth is an ambitious nepo baby. Why are some people saying he might get paired with Becka from a low-ranking family? Doesn't he have to tell the aunts who he is interested in first, and only after that do they choose a potential match for him?
Please explain your theories.

Also, there is a scene in the trailers where we see a person in a white nightgown run through the garden at night. Imo, that is Becka running away after getting her match. She almost reaches Agnes but is then taken away. That is where we get this other scene in the trailer where Agnes asks Garth in tears what happened to Becka. What do you think?

>"He realized that as he’s growing up alongside them, that he’s experiencing an entirely different world and one of incredible privilege compared to what the girls are experiencing. And I just think he realizes that’s wrong." – Brad Alexander

This is super interesting. After reading this article, I really hope the showrunners will make his character development mirror Nick's – but inverted!

>"He has idealized and idolized commanders his entire life, and his process was, “I’m 100 percent going to be a commander and a great one.” He’s hubristic and ambitious." – Brad Alexander

Unlike Nick, who was kind of a passive nobody at first and had to work himself up the ranks, Garth is a nepo baby who is proud and ambitious from the beginning. I hope that he will ultimately choose the rights of women to be free over Gilead, unlike Nick, who chose this oppressive regime over love.

Speaking of love, it's hilarious that the interviewer keeps bringing up the idea of Garth and Agnes falling in love. Ugh … I hope Agnes's big character growth moment won't be triggered because of him (romantic love) but because of Becka (friendship love). I am much more interested in the chaotic duo called Garth and Daisy. (Garsy? Darth? LOL JK with the ship name).

>"He finds her [Daisy] challenging, but I also think there’s a respect for her. He recognizes that this woman has been educated. She’s got a life and opinions and a personality, whereas the other girls are sort of stockbreed within Gilead. He recognizes that she’s more fully composed, but I wouldn’t say that translates into a real affection. He’s scared of what she represents." – Brad Alexander

If their age gap turns out to be not too problematic, I hope to see him develop feelings for her and struggle between respecting her agency and wanting to control her, since that’s what he learned in Gilead his whole life. Maybe in the end, he will give up his own ambitions for her–romantic or not–which would turn him (again) into an inverted Nick!
