Winston and Potato

Our family has just been given the unfortunate news that our boy Winston has osteosarcoma. The mass is in his left front leg. He is a month away from being 8 years old, his weight hovers around 170-180 lbs., and he's around 36 inches tall at the shoulder.

Considering his age, size, and the mass being on a front limb, we have opted not to amputate. As of now he is on painkillers and aside from an occasional limp he is still himself; fruitlessly chasing squirrels, wrestling with our other dog, and desperately trying to be a part of everything.

I've searched this subreddit and found some stories of folks handling their wolfies osteosarcoma, but I was hoping anyone else willing would share theirs or elaborate if you've posted it here before. We're hoping we can maybe see what the near future is going to look like for us. Anything helps, but we are curious of chosen treatment options, their results, how much time you had with them after the diagnosis, and if your experience is over, when you decided to call it.

I apologize as this is a bummer topic and I don't mean dig up memories of sad times. My family and I would just like know more so we can try maximizing time with him while minimizing any suffering he has to endure.

Thank you.
