Discussion about new movie? The lack of Zuko x Katara interaction and his Azula scary inconsistency as well as just general Zutara-ness

Hey!

So I finished the movie a few hours ago and I really enjoyed it! Oh the nostalgia! I remember watching Avatar: The Last Airbender in my parents room with my younger siblings in the late 00's and early 10's and I really loved the show! Even then I remember having a crush on Zuko, especially when he grew his hair out. 😂😐

With the new movie, add in some fangirl-ing over how absolutely HUNKY everyone was and how they each could have starred in a L'Oréal commercial, it was missing some key things:

Katara x Zuko interactions- yes, they're still friends so why don't we see basically anything between them besides Zuko calling out for "Katara!" (and Toph) in the airship, as well as the brief look of disgust they had over being mistaken for being in a relationship when they're elderly.

Where the heck is Zuko's scar from the Agni Kai with Azula?! That was such a big turning point in their relationship?!

Look, I've browsed through this sub-Reddit after the new movie came out and reunited my love for Zutara, so I did see a post talking about the lack of Zuko's scar while Aang has his.

I also saw that one of the Avatar creators appears to be very anti-Zutara and maybe this lack of Zuko x Katara interaction (even as friends!) as well as the lack of scar could just be ways to curb the Zutara fans- I believe this is a pretty popular Avatar ship, probably one of the biggest, so this maybe makes sense?

I haven't been an absolute MASSIVE fangirl over Zutara, but I would say I totally ship them and can now say I view them as a top Fanfiction ship read...they just seem to be such a perfect match and the possibilities over story ideas are so juicy! I believe my first Fanfiction I read of theirs was around 2018 and since then I've maybe read less than a dozen? But since the movie came out and I was seeing clips of Zuko and Katara as adults, I did some more Zutara digging into fanart and the fandom in general and it's made me even more of a shipper of these two. ❤️💙

I mean, they're pretty perfectly matched! From watching the show and reading fanfiction, as well as my own romance genre knowledge, they make the PERFECT enemies-to-lovers match as well as meet the forbidden-romance trope. And the chemistry and tension between them? Knowing their history and literal opposing elements?! 💅📚

WE MISSED OUT!!! 🤣🤡

But alas, that is my rant over...

I just want to deeply thank the Fanfiction community for creating some amazing stories and pieces of art.

Fanfiction has probably been what I've read maybe 80% of the time since I discovered it around 2016 at 16 years old, and it honestly brings me so much happiness and contentment... especially as someone whose always been really shy and awkward and not that great at socialising, reading and Fanfiction have been a great release and endorphin-rush sometimes.

So thank you! For the stories. The art. The community.

(And keeping our delusions alive, albeit the fact they're literally made for each other) 😂📚

Just finished the new movie...🤭🍿 In search of Zutara 20+ y/o recommendations!

Hey lovelies!

So I caved and watched the new movie...OMFG?

It was so cute and the nostalgia was hitting hard! 🥺

After feasting my eyes on the absolute UNITS of beauty that were the Gaang (seriously, biceps and ab's and L'Oréal like hair?!) I'm not CRAVING some 18-20+ year old Zutara recommendations!

Happy endings are a must!

Adventuring is good!

Some features of Fire Lady Katara would be awesome!

And spice would be a lovely treat too! *Chefs kiss*

Ugh, they are truly magnificent in the movie... especially Zuko... *drools*.

Happy reading! 💅📚

Hey lovely Zutarian's (is that a thing?).

I made a post sometime last week looking for stories similar to "My Heart Burns for You" by AlwaysZutarian (but a bit shorter as that story is a MASSIVE beast of a length- I think almost 3k pages? 🫪). I enjoyed the story but it was super loooong, especially to get to th juicy bits of them being in an actual relationship.

"The Summit" by AJLenoire was recommended and I'm about 65% through and really enjoying it! While a bit of a slow burn with lots of that juicy tension and chemistry (*chefs kiss*), I see maybe the remaining 30% is going to have more full on/public Zuko x Katara togetherness compared to the first half which was mostly walking around each other with hidden feelings.

So? I'd love to read more stories that do have a bit of a slow burn with that lovely tension and chemistry but then have more of the story seeing them in an actual relationship and maybe even seeing Katara as Firelady?- as with her character in "My Heart Burns for You" which sees a big chunk of the story as her ruling next to Zuko in marriage with lots of drama and juicy-ness

I'd also REALLY love to see Katara maybe using Blood-bending in more stories? To protect herself and others in certain situations? It really can show just how powerful she can be and I did enjoy the scene in "My Heart Burns for You" where *SPOILERS* her and Zuko are kidnapped and she ends up using Blood-bending to help them. It was sooooo good! Especially them having to survive together and comfort one another. Ugh...it was amazing (I'm currently thinking of skipping ahead in the story just to reread that part and continue from there 😂).

Spice is always nice...

With the new movie sneak peaks I've seen I have really been craving (and giggling and blushing) over their adult portrayals (especially Zuko and seeing him and Katara together- they look so good together;).

Thanks guys, and happy reading! 🤭😍

Hi!

This is probably going to be a bit of a random 'ask' for advice and further information, but since Reverse Harem, Monster/Shifter and Adult Fantasy/Supernatural works make up about 90% of what I read, I thought I should give it a try just in case there were any authors or editors on this sub-Reddit. 🤔🌱

"Reading."

I would joke that I've been doing it 'professionally' (*clears throat* passionately) for 10+ years now. By this I mean I tend to read several hours each day and surround myself with content relating to indie/traditional book publishing, trends and tropes, and other assortments of information relating to the *growing revival of reading/book collecting.

I have two degrees, one focused on a double major in Psychology and English and I also recently got my Honors in Applied Psychology. That, and I have been doing my own/assisting others in research, writing, editing and proofreading of academic, professional and creative writing works for several years now- which I really enjoy doing!

I have found that my love of reading and long-term 'passion' (it's essentially an addiction at this point 🫠🌈) as well as my scholarly experience in the above mentioned tasks have made me adept enough at spotting spelling and sentence structure mistakes, and content and storyline irregularities while I leisurely read. 😂 I sometimes seem to do it automatically, and while it doesn't bother me too much as I know publishing works independently can often get expensive/authors may not be able to afford certain editors, it does make me think, "I could totally do some editing/proofreading for them!".

I do have informal and formal research, writing, editing and proofreading experience, and I have also set up an UpWork profile that I hope I could soon make use of to see if I could gain more experience (in the indie publishing sector) and find some clients. However, the exchange rate for UpWork credits (I live in South Africa) as well as not currently having any full time work has made it a bit difficult to actually purchase said credits to officially start reaching out to potential authors who may be needing some assistance.

Honestly? I just truly believe I would be a great assist for new indie authors due to my passion for it/ knowledge of the indie publishing scene and prior experience. I know it can be a bit chaotic going the indie publishing route and I do believe some authors would love some additional support and cheering-on.

To summarise:

Reading? Adore it. Love it. Cherish it. 🤭✍🏼

Assisting in writing/editing-related tasks? Enjoy it! Seem to do it automatically when reading. 😂

Availability? YES. I am so prepared to sit down and absolutely (figuratively) devour a story and see if I could assist with any additional editing/proofreading support before publishing.

So? To my authors and editors out in the indie publishing space, do you have any advice? It would honestly be so appreciated as I have been really wanting to step into this writing)editing space for some time now.

How does one find clients? I don't want to appear rude and simply contact indie authors and start off with, "Hey, I read your book and it was really great! However, I noticed several errors and inconsistencies and I'd love to be able to offer my support services." 🙈

Do you have any advice in general?

I know with the major increase in AI-usage in both writing and editing spaces that it has gotten a bit more difficult to find clients and get the work done, so I want to offer these services in a way that ensures authors and readers know it is done with human passion and dedication- the authors and books that offer so many of us 'bookworms' comfort and entertainment deserve it.

I honestly appreciate authors and editors so much, especially in the indie publishing space. You have brought so much joy in my life as reading is such a big part of who I am, and I hope to also bring about that same happiness and comfort to others when they open a new book for the first time. It truly is such a marvelous thing; writing these stories and creating these characters allow so many of us to explore these new and curious worlds and experience personalities and relationships that make us feel SO much. It truly is an experience.

So thank you! 🤗📚

I do apologise for the lengthy post!

Thank you in advance and happy reading, friends! 📚⭐

Hi everyone,

I’ve been looking into online teaching/tutoring and wanted to get some honest input from people already in the space.

My background is in Psychology and English (including Honours in Applied Psychology), and I’m interested in pursuing tutoring/additional ESL support with a focus on things like:

- helping students structure essays and research assignments

- editing/proofreading academic work (especially for ESL students)

- tutoring subjects like Psychology or Literature alongside writing support

From what I’ve seen, general TEFL/ESL seems quite crowded, so I’m wondering if there’s more demand in this kind of combined, more specialised support—especially for high school/university students.

If you’ve worked with students like this:

- Where do they usually look for help?

- Do platforms like Upwork/Preply actually work for this niche, or is it better to go independent?

- Is this something students are willing to pay for consistently?

I’d really appreciate any insight (even if it’s just what didn’t work for you).

Thanks!
