So in late January, I was put on a PIP at my current company. I had gotten a new manager, and to be honest, it really feels like he just does not like me. I took it very hard and even posted about it on Reddit before, but the last few months have been extremely difficult. Before this manager, I genuinely enjoyed my job. He joined in January 2025, so I had been working under him for about a year before the PIP. I’ve been with the company for about three years total, and they also had major layoffs around the same time I was put on the PIP.

My manager has treated me in a way that feels consistently critical, dismissive, and unsupported. Instead of giving clear feedback or coaching, he has questioned my technical ability, blamed me for project delays, and brought up concerns after the fact without giving clear expectations up front. The PIP process has felt especially unfair because I had to create the improvement plan myself, while still receiving vague or shifting feedback. Overall, I feel like I have been criticized more than supported, and I don’t feel like I’ve been given a fair or clear opportunity to succeed.

Since then, I’ve been applying and interviewing. I just received an offer for a dream job. The work would be extremely exciting and it is in a field I am very passionate about. It is 100% remote and would be about a 20% increase from my current salary. The catch is that it is a 6-month contract role.

I’m really excited about it, but also nervous because it is contract work. I’m trying to decide whether I should accept it and leave my current job, or try to ride out the PIP while continuing to look for a permanent position. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Would you take the contract role, or stay put until something permanent comes along?
