The Sparkle Hands vs Gloves of Cinder and Sizzle

I am playing a Tavern Brawler, Open Hand Monk.

I know there are a handful of Gloves for Monks that add 1d4 of some elemental damage.

This post is focused on the two items available in Act 1.

The Sparkle Hands:

The Gloves of Cinder and Sizzle
- https://bg3.wiki/wiki/Gloves\_of\_Cinder\_and\_Sizzle

The uncertain part here is… the Sparkle Hands add +1 to hit and Damage and every, round I can proc the D8… potentially using Flurry of Blows and Unarmed Bonus Attack (before 5) or at 5+ Two Attacks and a Bonus Attack.

Is there something I’m missing maybe?

I can potentially see pairing the Cinder Gloves with… Heat items… like the Cinder Shoes but Heat seems like a worse version go Lightning Charges.

I can see opportunities with the other element type on the Monk Gloves.. potentially. But the Cinder and Sizzle Gloves in particular feel worse than the Spark Hands.

I’m open to all feedback around Gloves of Element types and other item interactions for the Monk.

Or maybe there’s something just plain better than both at that point in the game?

This idea has been percolating for me for a while, but every time I try to implement it, it feels… insufficient.

So here’s the base, I want to play a full party of Dragonborns.

- Fire
- Ice
- Poison
- Acid
- Lighting
- Thunder

I would like each Dragonborn to focus on their element as the way they do combat.

So, my question is, what would the party composition look like?

Here’s where I was…

- Fire : Light Cleric
- Cold: Draconic Sorcerer
- Poison: Druid??
- Thunder : Elemental Monk?

I am open to all ideas…

Thank you!

I have two ongoing games, I tend to start a new game when I reach a new act, so when my first group reached Act 2, I started a new group in Act 1.

The first group, is an all Wood Elves party. The idea came from really wanting to play a nature oriented party. So, I put 4 Wood Elves together. The RP behind them was they would also bias towards preserving nature. They're lead by an Ancients Paladin, Rakka Leafborne. She's the leader of the group and party face.

With her are her three brave Wood Elf warriors joining her to stop the corruption of the Illithid invasion.

Characters:

- Rakka Leafborne, a Dex Paladin. I really wanted to lean into something slightly different with this game and so I made my Ancient Paladin a Dex Paladin. The RP decided the build. I really wanted to her to have an Elven feel, so I wanted her to rely on her speed and agiliy. This means access to like, three weapons in the game. I am currently using Phalar Aluve, which also help her be a strong support character as well. A true leader, making other better.

- Illeoyn is a Wild Heart Barbarian. A front line force, fighting alongside Rakka. Nothing Special here, GWM and leaning into the Barbarian-ness. Her Aura has really helped with the theme of agility and speed for the party.

- Cosmira was just a fun build around Radiant Damage and Radiating Orb. Cosmira is a Stars Druid and she's often in the front line fighting with Shilelegh and Radiant Dragon Breath. When things get spicy she'll drop a Moonbeam as well. She's our "debuffer".

- "Eagle Eye" Amoen, is something I've been wanting to do for a while. Which was a Beast Master Ranger. She uses Titanstring and dual wields Mountainking Knife with Giant Club. I often use the Spider because I have been having a lot of success with it's CC.

Overall, the party has been a LOT of fun and there's a ton of synergy there. Being Wood Elves, having Long Strider and Aspect of the Elk makes for an extremely mobile party. It's not uncommon for GWM to proc and then walk across the battlefield and kill another monster. Really fun party and the theme is really coming together.

The second group is based on some casual reading about Halfings I was doing and I just got inspired.

https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Luiren

Down in the page they talk about Marchwardens and I got inspired to make a detachment of Marchwardens that got captured by the Nautiloid while chasing an Illithid that was threatening their homeland on the frontier.

https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Luiren_marchwarden

The RP was directly inspired by this... So, two party members ended up the typical classes for Marchwardens. Druid and Ranger.

I also read about the Hin Fist and I've always really enjoyed the idea of Halfling Monks (I played one in 3rd Edition way back in the day) so I felt it absolutely necessary to use one.

From a mechanics perspective, I really wanted to feel the full force of Tavern Brawler with Monks and Druids and so it just felt like a natural fit.

Finally, I did some reading and listening on Yondalla.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYO-A4_hFco

Which informed my party face, a Life Cleric of Yondalla and the leader of the party, Rinathin Burrow. (his name is also from the lore. Apparently the Burrow family are well known among halfling kind).

...and thus, my full party of Halflings was created!

- Rinathin Burrow, Life Cleric of Yondalla. Stepping away from his family's entreprenurial adventures, he instead wanted to serve other Halfings and help as much as he could. So he joined the Marchwardens as a healer, building a reputation for himself as being a calm, clever, helpful Halfings. (he avoids combat as much as he can)

https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Calcitro_Burrow

- Luin is a Hin Fist who was asked to join the March Warden detachement when rumors circulated that a Mind Flayer was seen on the frontier.

https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Hin_Fist

- Thillidis Fang, an old Halfing who has been guarding the frontier for decades, an advisor to Rinathin, he lends his claws to the adventure to stop the Mind flayer corruption.

- Olyn, a young eager Ranger driven to proove herself. Adept at hiding in the shadows and hunting creatures of all kinds. She hopes build herself a nice collection of tentacles.

That it!

As per usual my parties are always around some theme (all Elves, all Halfings, then I layer in something from that (Nature, Marchwardens) and then I explore some fun mechanics along the way to experience some different parts of the game (mobility with the Elves and the Dex Paladin. Tavern Brawler with the Halflings).

If you made it here, thank you for reading!
