Has anyone else been wondering what's going on with the downtown post office? I've been trying to mail a package for a few days, and every time I go in the woman at the counter (who is not one of the folks I usually see there) has said the system is down and should be up in an hour.
Maybe I just have bad timing? To be fair, I have only been in three times. But I'm also concerned that there's some effort to sabotage our postal service by pissing off customers. The right-wing politicians who send me emails (Huizinga, Bergman) have both been talking ominously about how the USPS isn't working. And the current head of the USPS is on the board of FedEx (which would definitely benefit if the USPS went under)!
Anyway, does anyone have any information about our downtown post office in particular, and also any strategies for ensuring our USPS continues to exist? The postal service is one of the greatest assets this country has, and it would be terrible if we lost it. And the downtown office is so much nicer than the one on Drake, it would be terrible to lose that as well.
