Bacterial acne?

Around 2 years ago I started getting under the skin acne that wouldn’t come to the surface as raised whiteheads- nothing would get rid of them and my skin was very sensitive so I couldn’t tolerate benzoyl peroxide. My dr prescribed me zineryt which as I’m aware reduces acne causing bacteria on the skin. It worked so well for me and completely solved my issues but the dr is reluctant for me to continue due to antibiotic resistance.

Since then, I’ve tried using a retinol called differin but got a massive itchy raw allergic style reaction and hence and couldn’t tolerate it.

Overall this led me to believe the root cause of my acne is bacterial and hence I should use methods targeting this. Does anyone have recommendations? I’m curious about azelaic acid and possibly benzoyl peroxide again as is meant to be antibacterial but I’m wondering what alternatives there are. Any advice is appreciated!
