Hi everyone,

I have a male Syrian (golden) hamster, about 3–4 months old. So far he’s been healthy and I haven’t had any issues. He is quite shy though, and it took him over a month to get somewhat used to me.

Since yesterday, I suddenly noticed a bald spot on his back. When I took a closer look, I saw a fairly large scab/wound there (see photos). The scab itself looks dry, like it might be healing, but the bald area around it seems to be getting bigger, which makes me think it’s still irritating or itchy for him.

I haven’t changed his bedding or food recently, and I’ve checked his enclosure for sharp edges but couldn’t find anything unusual.

I tried to get a vet appointment, but the earliest available slot is Monday.

In the meantime, I was hoping to get some advice here:
- Does this look like mites, fungus, or something else?
- Is there anything I can safely do for him until the vet visit?

He doesn’t seem to be scratching excessively (at least not that I’ve seen), and his behavior otherwise seems normal.

Any advice would be really appreciated!
