Hi, I'm currently living in Toronto, Canada and I've spent my 20s trying to survive without my parents' help or getting into debts. I come from a lower-middle class family and didn't want my parents to shed out more money with the financial situation we were in. As soon as I got into working age, I did several jobs, convenience store, salesman, car-dealer admin, etc. I was able to save some money but my entire 20s got swept up trying to survive.
Now I tried to get into programming and did my first year IT in college. My fears about the IT market became more realistic as I talked to students who freshly graduated, did co-op and even the professors. They all said the same thing, the IT market is over saturated, many IT folks are having a hard time finding jobs with so many turnovers and some of my professors had to be a prof because they couldn't find jobs in the tech firms for the longest time. My passion for IT got drained out.
I've done my research and it seems automotive technicians and heavy duty technicians are in demand and the heavy duty technicians pay well. I don't mind the grime and dirt involved but I have a slip disk and I heard you need to carry some heavy weights. I did hear there are equipment that help you carry the heavy loads but not all the time. There's also the heavy equipment operator such as riding a bulldozer which has a decent pay and doesn't take too long to study. I'm kind of interested in working with these machineries but I want to hear a professional's opinion of what it's like and if there's anything I should be aware of. Any suggestions would greatly help. Thank you!
