Resources for voters

This will be my first time voting and this election is a huge one. I have done a little bit of research into a few candidates I am interested in however I feel like looking online is not giving me the information I want. Is there any sort of convention or place where us voters can go and learn more about our candidates, and talk with each other about them? I don't mean a campaign office, I'm looking for open discussions about our candidates, less about their "promises" and more about their character

I found it at work today in the Take-a-penny tray (don't worry I left a penny in return)

It looks like something ground on it and is oddly smooth for a penny, doesn't seem squished though.
