Got hired but orientation keeps getting pushed back — normal?
I currently work part-time at a warehouse while going to school. I was looking for a summer job with better pay and more hours, and my friend posted about an opening with a contracting company working on a large data center being built near me. The pay was significantly better, so I applied and got the job.
The woman handling my onboarding originally told me my orientation would be last Tuesday and sent the orientation details in an email, but she canceled Monday night saying the owner still had some things to figure out. She later said orientation would either be Thursday or Monday, but neither ended up happening. Since then, she hasn’t been clear on a start date and seems to just keep kicking the can down the road.
Is this kind of delay/common communication normal in contracting jobs, especially on big projects, or is this usually a bad sign?
